Review: Dove Fresh Touch Facial Cleanser

Tuesday, 11 February 2014

I go through my fair share of face wash. There are just so many kinds to choose from and I want to try them all! Though, I hadn't tried a whole lot of Dove skincare before I picked up the Fresh Touch Facial Cleanser a few months ago but I'll probably try a some more after this one.

This is a pretty standard cream cleanser that doesn't have a lot of lather but that doesn't mean you have to use tons of it, either. It's advertised for normal to dry skin, which is what I usually have, and has 1/4 moisturisers in its ingredients.

What I like about this cleanser is it contains cucumber and green tea which makes it very soothing and also makes it smell really nice. In the morning this fresh scent is a great way to wake up and get ready for the day.

I also quite like the packaging! I know this isn't the most important part of a product but it does matter! The bottle is slim for travel and storage and easily squeezable to get all of the product out. I just think it's designed really well and it appealed to me on the shelf!

Dove has a few different face washes which I will probably be checking out since I've enjoyed this one so much!

Review: Covergirl Clump Crusher Extensions Mascara

Thursday, 6 February 2014

I, like most people, picked up the Covergirl Clump Crusher when it was released last year. I liked it, but I tend to prefer a bit more drama in my mascaras which I just didn't find in the original Clump Crusher. So, I was really excited when Covergirl released Clump Crusher Extensions. This version is the same formula as the original but with fibres to add length to your lashes.

I bought the colour Blackest Black and it is a very black formula, however, I ultimately found it a bit too similar to the original Clump Crusher for my liking. There's definitely more length with the fibres, but Clump Crusher in general offers a very natural look to your lashes; Nothing particularly lengthened, volumized, separated. In my opinion, it just doesn't compare to my beloved Maybelline the Mega Plush which gives the volume, length, separation, and drama that I look for.

Don't get me wrong, this is a good mascara, quite good. It doesn't smudge or melt with heat or sweat. It doesn't flake but it does wash off easily. I have enjoyed using Clump Crusher Extensions and do prefer it to the original but when you've already found a holy grail product, it's hard to settle for anything less.

I also quite like the brush of this mascara. It's the same curved-wedge shape as Clump Crusher numero uno with plastic bristles. The curved side is great for the upper lashes and the flat side gets into the lower lash line very easily. These types of brushes are my personal preference because I feel they grab the lashes and disperse the product more evenly than the wire-like brushes.

An overall good drugstore mascara that I would recommend over most; one worthy of repurchase but, alas, not a holy grail replacement.

Review: Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hr Lipstick in Ravishing Rouge and Keep Me Coral

Tuesday, 4 February 2014

I have way too many lip products but it never stops me from collecting more! These two were kindly gifted to me for Christmas. I love receiving makeup as gifts because it means you get to try brands or products you may never have picked up yourself! That's true for me with these Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hr Lipsticks in Ravishing Rouge (above right) and Keep Me Coral (above left).

What's fantastic about these lipsticks is they are really classic colours. Coral and red go with almost anything, however, a deep coral and a bright red are quite opposite to what I usually pick. Keep Me Coral is almost a nude coral while Ravishing Rouge is a real bright red. Both colours are nicely opaque with a sheen-y finish.

While I may like the colours, both lipsticks are packed full of glitter, which doesn't necessarily bother me, except that as they wear away on the lips, the glitter is all that gets left behind. It's not a super nice look having bare, sparkly lips!

I'm not sure what Maybelline was thinking with the '14 Hr' because these lipsticks do not last that long. The wear isn't awful but it's pretty standard for a long-wear lip product. Perhaps they meant the glitter, though, because that stuff does not come off easily!

I do like having Ravishing Rouge and Keep Me Coral in my collection, but if I could I would definitely choose a lot less glitter!
